Water Bottles

going green tips water bottles

Bottled water causes a huge pollution problem and uses up a lot more resources than tap water.

  1. Every year we go through 50 billion bottles of water, only 20% of those bottles are recycled.  The other 80% make it to landfills and the oceans killing animals and polluting the earth.

  2. 17 million barrels of oil are used to make the bottles.

  3. The average American uses 167 water bottles per year.

  4. Water is wasted during the bottling process.  For example to create a 16oz water bottle there is another 16oz of wasted water from the filling and manufacturing process.  So every 16oz water bottle you drink is actually using 32oz of water.

  5. Tap water is often more safe than bottled water. Tap water faces more regulations and requires more testing than bottled water.

  6. Bottled water can range in price from $1.50 to $2.50 per gallon.  On average tap water cost $0.002 per gallon. That is quite the savings.

Switching over to a reusable water bottle not only helps the environment but it also helps your wallet.  We always carry our reusable bottles everywhere we go. We fill them up at home and any time we need more water we simply find a water fountain or any restaurant will gladly fill it up.
