Household Cleaners

going green tips household cleaners

Most household cleaners have chemicals, a lot of chemicals.  Some of those chemicals include, Phthalates, Perchloroethylene or “PERC”, Triclosan, Quarternary Ammonium Compounds, or “QUATS”, 2-Butoxyethanol, Ammonia, etc…  The list goes on and on, there are over 62 chemicals found in most cleaning supplies.

These chemicals are extremely bad for the environment and even worse for your health.  Even the brands that say they are “green” still use a lot of these chemicals. Plus all of the store bought cleaners come in plastic bottles.

Making your own cleaners is more safe, cheaper, and just as effective as store bought cleaners.  We tried using a variety of homemade solutions each with different ingredients. After testing them we found that the basic solution below worked best for all scenarios:

All Purpose Cleaner:

- Peels from two oranges

- Half water and half White vinegar to cover

- A jar or spray bottle large enough to hold it all

- Store for 2 weeks

- Remove the peels then the solution is ready
