Plastic Shopping Bags

going green tips plastic shopping bags

Plastic bags are one of the most widespread types of litter, worldwide over 500 BILLION plastic bags are consumed each year, it is estimated that only 0.50% of these bags are recycled.  The rest of these bags go head to landfills and oceans.

The bags pose a big risk for cities clogging drainage systems which contribute to flooding.  When the bags make it to the oceans they get caught in currents and can strangle marine life.
Some countries have banned plastic bags.  The USA is starting to follow with 349 cities that are already banning plastic bags.

You can help too, by always carrying a reusable bag or two with you, keep them in your car or backpack wherever you go and you will never need to use a plastic bag again.
